Education Policy of Gujarat reviewed by Educationists at an SIO Gathering
The Gujarat zone of the Students Islamic Organisation of India(SIO)conducted a day long program on Sunday, the 2nd September for critically reviewing the Education Policy of Gujarat at the Gujarat Vidyapith campus in Ahmedabad. The program was attended by noted educationists and activists including Sharique Ansar – National Secretary of SIO, Prof.J.S.Bandukwala of PUCL, Prof.Rohit Shukla of Abhidrashti, Abdul Latif Sheth – Education Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Gujarat, Chandu Meharia of Dalit Adhikar,Abdurrahim Shaikh the retired professor from Navgujarat College, Gulab Khan Rauma the educational activist from Patan, Khalique Ahmed the principal correspondent of the Indian Express Publication and Dr.Iftikhar Malik of Yuva Saathi Magazine.
The educationists deliberated on various educational issues including the status of Right to the Education Act, Priorities for Primary Education, Commercialization of Education, Public Private Partnership for Financing Education Sector, Minority Education, Educational Welfare Schemes and the need for Social Justice in Education during a panel discussion. The gathering resolved to prepare a charter of demands and submit the same to all political groups in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat.
The program also had a detailed presentation on the critical review of the National Educational Policy by Sharique Ansar, the National Secretary of SIO of India and presentations on the Minority Education and Higher Education by Prof.J.S.Bandukwala and Prof.Abdurrahim Shaikh respectively. More than sixty students and educationists hailing from the different parts of the state attended the day long program held at the Gujarat Vidyapith.
