New Weekly Poverty Resource at TheNation.com

New York -- With nearly one in six American below the official poverty line of $22,300 for a family of four, African-American and Hispanic children with staggering poverty rates of 40 percent and 37 percent and more than one in three Americans struggling on incomes below twice the poverty threshold, The Nation is expanding its dedicated coverage of an issue editor Katrina vanden Heuvel calls “the shame of our nation.”

Every Friday, TheNation.com will feature "This Week in Poverty," by Nation contributor Greg Kaufmann, offering key statistics that are too often ignored; provides updates on legislative efforts at the national, state, and local levels; reports on the battles activists are fighting in their communities; summarizes cutting-edge ideas, studies, and proposals offered by antipoverty experts and organizations; finds opportunities for action, highlights programs that are working, flags must-read articles, busts myths and much more.
