ANDRITZ to supply equipment for
the Santa Teresa hydropower station, Peru

Graz/Vienna, February X, 2012.  Luz del Sur, one of the largest electric utility companies in Peru, has awarded ANDRITZ HYDRO a contract to supply the electromechanical equipment for the Santa Teresa hydropower station. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-2014.

The new underground power house with a water head of 188 m will use the tailwater from the Machu Picchu hydropower station nearby in the Urubamba valley of the Cusco region and will have a total output of 98.5 MW. The ANDRITZ HYDRO scope of supply includes design engineering, delivery, installation, and commissioning of two Francis turbines, governors, generators, as well as protection and control systems.

Almost 60% of Peru’s electricity demand is covered by clean hydropower. ANDRITZ HYDRO has equipped more than half of the hydropower stations in Peru, with first deliveries back in 1911.
