Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime services provider, has opened an office in Timor-Leste. The new venture will enable ISS to provide a wide range of services and work alongside the Timorese Government and NGOs to make vital logistical improvements within the emerging state.
Services offered via the new office, which is located in Dili, will include marine and offshore agency, government services, and logistics and freight forwarding by sea, land and air together with Customs clearance, warehousing and transportation.
Other projects will include working with the Ministry of Petroleum on an Offshore Supply Base which is due to be built in Suai in the south western part of the country.
Timor-Leste, which became the first new sovereign state of the 21st Century on 20 May 2002 after a long struggle for independence, still has a large presence of UN personnel and aid workers, and aid/humanitarian cargoes are expected to feature for at least another five years. Presidential elections are due to take place on 17 March this year and Parliamentary elections are expected in June.
David Castellano, ISS Regional General Manager - Commercial, said: “The new office in Dili will bring a wide range of ISS maritime services to Timor-Leste. It will also help to effect major logistical and supply chain improvements within the state, which continues to suffer the after-effects of its struggle for independence.
“We will draw on our extensive international expertise to work with Government Instrumentalities and NGOs to effect changes in key areas, such as warehousing, transportation and distribution, which will have a major impact on Timor-Leste’s future prosperity.”
The ISS country representative in Timor-Leste is Denny Campos.
