Lieutenant General Ramesh Halgali, AVSM, SM, assumed the appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (IS&T) on 11 Feb 2012. He was commissioned on 24 Dec 1972 into 1st Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry. He has attended Defence Services Staff College, Senior Command, Higher Command, National Defence College, Senior Fellows Course in Washington DC, and is an M.Phil from DAV Institute of Management, Indore.
The General Officer has held many important staff and Instructional assignments. He commanded an Infantry Brigade and Division in J&K and a Corps in Western Sector. Till recently he was Director General of Military Training.
The General Officer was awarded Sena Medal Gallantry in 1992 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service in 2012.
