World Steel Association elects new officers and welcomes new members
Tokyo, 4 October 2010– The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) has elected the following new officers for 2010/2011:
Chairman: Hajime Bada, President & CEO, JFE Holdings Inc
Vice Chairmen: Paolo Rocca, Chairman and CEO, Techint Group
Xiaogang Zhang, President, Anshan Iron & Steel Corporation
Treasurer John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corporation
The new officers were elected for one year, until October 2011. The Board of Directors met on the first day of worldsteel’s 44th Annual Conference in Tokyo, Japan.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of the World Steel Association, Ian Christmas thanked Paolo Rocca, Chairman for 2009/2010, for his leadership and support over the past year. Ian Christmas said: “We welcome Hajime Bada as the new Chairman, Paolo Rocca and Xiaogang Zhang as Vice Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer. We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board”.
“We are particularly pleased to see this continued growing membership from China where nearly half of global steel is produced and consumed. This is important for the industry as a whole as so much of our work involves key global issues from safety and health to technology advancement and climate change."
The Board of Directors also elected the 2010/11 Executive Committee:
