Innovation showpiece: ThyssenKrupp Elevator for the first time to install TWINs and double-deck elevators in one building
Contract for 52 units for Saudi Arabia's tallest skyscraper
The order placed by the Saudi Arabian Capital Market Authority (CMA) for the 385 meter CMA Tower in the capital Riyadh represents a significant first for ThyssenKrupp Elevator: It takes in almost the entire product range, including 17 TWINs with 34 cabs, eleven double-deck elevators, twelve conventional elevators - among them several machine room-less units - and twelve escalators. It is the first time that ThyssenKrupp Elevator will be installing two of its premium passenger transportation products - the exclusive TWIN system, in which two cabs operate independently in one shaft, and high-performance double-deck elevators - in the same building.
The new CMA headquarters, a major international construction project, will not only be the country's tallest skyscraper but also the tallest all-office tower in the world. Its three below-ground levels and 79 stories will offer around 185,000 square meters of floor space for the 5,500 people expected to work there from the end of 2012. To enable them to reach their workplaces as quickly and safely as possible, the architects and building owners have opted for a highly innovative transportation concept: Double-deck elevators will provide a shuttle service, traveling to various distribution levels with no intermediate stops at up to seven meters per second, after which passengers will transfer to TWINs to reach their final destination.
To guarantee maximum passenger convenience, the new Transferfloor Control Function will for the first time combine route planning for TWINs and double-deck elevators in one control system. ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the only manufacturer to date to successfully develop a control system of this kind. Passengers select the desired floor on a touch screen outside the elevators. If they need to go to one of the higher levels, the system will direct them to one of the double-deck cabs. Before reaching the distribution level, two monitors in the cab will advise passengers which connecting elevator (TWIN) to take to get to their final destination.
