Conference on “New Horizons In Internationalized Domain Names and New Generic Top Level Domains” begins tomorrow

Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India is organising a one-day conference on “New Horizons in Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) & Reference to New generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs)” at New Delhi tomorrow. The conference aims to publicize the recent introduction of new gTLDs by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and its application to our Indian Languages as well as the major languages of the world. The conference will also serve as a platform for covering the initiatives undertaken by DIT to ensure that our Indian Languages find their rightful place in Internationalized Domain Names

For publicizing the concept and enhancing the understanding DIT, VeriSign SARL, National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC) is organising the conference to explain to the relevant stakeholders the concept of the New gTLDs, the application process, the timelines and financial implications of the same.

The conference will have the best of minds both from India and abroad, who will address the audience on a variety of subjects ranging from introduction to the new gTLDs, security as well as legal implications of the implementation of the IDN policy among others. An important feature of the conference will be a feedback session to garner public consensus and obtain valuable suggestions.

Industry representatives, Industry Associations, Government of India officials, IT secretaries of all states, Mayors of major cities, OS & browser developers, Trademark bodies, Registrars, Linguists, Language bodies, MHA representative (Central and State) and other stakeholders will attend the conference.
