Eight New Pilots to be Taken up to Develop Smart Grid in the Country
The Working Groups formed under the India Smart Grid Task Force (ISGTF) have come out with a number of recommendations for development of the Smart Grid system in the country. The highlights of the recommendations are as follows:
India Smart Grid Task Force chaired by Shri Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Information, Infrastructure and Innovations was set up in May 2010 under the aegis of Ministry of Power to develop a roadmap and standards for the development and implementation of Smart Grid related technologies in the country. Its main functions are to create awareness, ensure coordination and integration of diverse activities relating to smart grid technologies, facilitate research and development activities and coordinate the inter-departmental activities related to Smart Grid. The Task Force would also issue guidelines relating to interoperability framework and evolve national guidelines for the implementation of smart grid in the country.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Shri Sam Pitroda said that the following seven guiding principles are being followed for developing Smart Grid in India :
The recommendations of the Working Groups will be hosted on the ISGTF website for review/ comments/feedback by public and other industry experts for wider consultations.
