MILITANT OUTFITS RECRUIT BOYS
AT TENDER AGE OF 13 YEARS
New Delhi: Bhadrapada 17, 1932
08 September 2010
In a ceremony organised by IGAR(South) on 06 and 07 Sep 2010, nine hardcore militants of different militant outfits including six from Peoples Liberation Army(PLA) all in the age groups 18-23 years laid down their arms before Mr. Joy Kumar, DGP, Manipur and Major General C A Krishnan, IGAR(S). On interaction with the young surrenderees and their families during the occasion, it emerged that these youth were misguided to take, the wrong path at the tender ages of 13-14 years. The surrenderees included 06 cadres of PLA, 02 cadres of KCP (Kanglepak) and one cadre of PREPAK.
Concerted efforts of the Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR(South) to convince and motivate the families, relatives and the militants and a series of surrenders so far, this year, has now even paved way for hardcore cadres of major UG groups like the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) to lay down arms and take a step towards joining the mainstream. All together, so far, this year, 58 militants have surrendered to IGAR (South), 49 of them with arms. It is pertinent to mention that most of these surrenderees are young men in their teens or early twenties, who were misled and taken away by insurgent groups, while at a tender age. Home coming of the ‘young’ should usher in a situation conducive for other members of the “valley based groups” to lay down arms, abjure violence and join the main-stream.
