Shinde to Attend World Energy Congress

Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power, is leading a delegation of senior officials of power sector and representatives of Industry to Canada from 15 September to 18 September 2010 to participate in World energy Congress which is to be attended by Ministers of several countries.

On 15 September Shri Shinde will meet Mr. Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources, Govt of Canada in Montreal. During the meeting both the ministers will discuss various issues about the power sector of India and new policy initiatives taken by India for rapid growth of power sector like FDI in power sector and National Missions on Climate Change etc. They will also discuss the issue of increasing the co operation between the two countries in power sector.

After this meeting, Shri Shinde will meet CEO of Canadian company SNC Lavalin. This company is active in India for last many years in many sectors. Later, Mr. Hugh MacDiarmid, Chairman & CEO, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) will call on Shri Shinde. This meeting is significant as India and Canada are now partner in Civil nuclear co operation regime. In the evening, Shri Shinde shall be meeting leaders of various big corporate houses of Canada India Business Council (CIBC).

On 16 September 2010, the Power Minister will meet Mr. Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade Govt of Canada and discuss the bilateral cooperation issues. This would be followed by luncheon business meeting organised by Quebec India Business Council (QIBC) having participation of about 62 stakeholders. In the afternoon, the Minister will have a Meeting with Ms. Nathalie Normandeau, Vice Premier & Minister of Natural Resources, Quebec.

Later the minister will attend the main event at the Ministerial Round Table on “Transition Timeline to a New Energy World” at World Energy Congress where Energy Minister of Canada, France, Russia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia etc will also be present. In his address at the event, Shri Shinde will dwell upon Indian power sector and perspective of Govt of india for future growth of Indian power sector with climate change issues in mind.

On 17 September, Shri Shinde will be in Otawa, the capital of Canada and would visit Carleton University. He shall attend Roundtable with Canada India Centre of Excellence to be lead by Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Runte followed by luncheon meeting, co-hosted by Dr. Runte and Mr. John Manley, President of Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE) at Duncan Tower, Carleton University.

On 18 Sep 2010 Mr Shinde would visit Niagra Power Project during the day before leaving for India in the Evening.
