Major order for ThyssenKrupp Elevator in Norway

New DnB NOR headquarters in Oslo to feature unique architecture and 28 elevators with destination selection control system

ThyssenKrupp Elevator A/S (Oslo), a company of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, has been awarded its biggest-ever contract for elevators in Norway. A total of 28 units will be installed exclusively in the three buildings making up the new headquarters of the DnB NOR financial services group in Oslo. The multi-building ensemble will have over 80,000 square meters of usable floor space and will be located in the Bjørvika district as part of the urban development project Fjord City. Work is scheduled for completion by 2013. Featuring unique architecture and situated in close proximity to the new central railway station and the new opera house, the buildings will include offices, open plan workstations, retail outlets, exclusive apartments and two panoramic restaurants.

The central element will be the 17-story main building with 2,000 flexible workstations and an electronic trading room. It will be equipped with twelve machine room-less (MRL) elevators with rises of up to 70 meters. The gearless drives for this elevator type are extremely energy-efficient and reliable, making them very economical to run. The destination selection control system will provide added convenience: Passengers select the floor they want to reach on an LCD terminal outside the cabs. The system then directs them to the most suitable elevator, reducing both waiting and travel times. The forward-looking technology of the elevator systems is matched by the building's architecture: Differently arranged cubes will give each floor an individual design, while roof gardens and communal areas will provide additional space and encourage communication among employees.

The 56-meter-tall neighboring building will feature a further highlight from ThyssenKrupp Elevator: an inclined elevator with a glass shaft, panoramic cab and a nominal capacity of 1,600 kilograms which will transport guests to the rooftop panoramic restaurant. The elevator will cover a distance of around 100 meters in just over a minute. Another seven MRL elevators with up to 17 stops will be installed inside the building, which will contain offices and retail outlets. The third building with offices, conference rooms and numerous apartments will have a total of eight MRL elevators with the destination selection control system.

The Elevator Technology business area brings together the ThyssenKrupp Group's global activities in passenger transportation systems. With 42,500 employees, sales of 5.3 billion euros in fiscal 2008/2009 and customers in 150 countries, ThyssenKrupp Elevator is one of the world's leading elevator companies.
