SAIL records 12% higher May sales



New Delhi: 

In May ’09, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) recorded best-ever monthly sales in the domestic market of about 1 million tonnes, which is higher by 12% over May ’08. With this, domestic sales of steel by SAIL during the first two months of the current financial year stood at about 1.9 million tonnes, 21% higher than CPLY. 

SAIL produced around 1.1 million tonnes of saleable steel during May ’09 which is 5% higher than CPLY. Production of special steels and high value-added items went up by 12%, touching 4 lakh tonnes, during the month.
