Technology Upgradation for Improvement in Efficiency of Irrigation Projects

The Indian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (INCID) will host the 60th International Executive Council (IEC) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) together with the 5th Asian Regional Conference here, during diamond jubilee year of INCID. The theme of the Conference is ‘Improvement in Efficiency of Irrigation Projects through Technology Upgradation and Better Operation and Maintenance’. A large number of delegates from various organizations from all over the world are expected to participate. So far, 200 papers and synopsis have been received for the coming Conference. 

Mr. A.K. Bajaj, Chairman, INCID and Central Water Commission (CWC) disclosed this at the 2nd Meeting of the organizing committee of 60th International Executive Council (IEC) Meeting and 5th Asian Regional Conference today. Papers on the subjects like modernization of public and state operated irrigation system and services, public-private partnership in irrigation development and management, integrated approach in agricultural drainage, capacity development for modern irrigation management, impact of climate change on water resources availability and crop productivity and legal aspects in sharing of water resources will be presented during the Conference. The six day conference will begin on 6th December’09. It will also have special sessions on Bilateral and International Cooperation, Asian Irrigation and Water Governance. An exhibition of products and services related to irrigation, flood control and drainage also will be organized. 

Earlier, the first Asian Regional Conference was held at Seoul, Korea, the 2nd at Echuca/Moama, Australia, the 3rd at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the 4th Conference was held at Tehran, Iran. This is the 5th Asian Regional Conference being held in India.
