Improve efficiency to bridge demand supply gap

Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, the Minister of State for Coal, Statistics and Programme Implementation has directed all the officers concerned to improve production and curtail all kinds of pilferages. Presiding over the review meeting of coal sector, the Minister said that that quarterly review of the performance of individual companies will be held to ensure that targets set are met in time. He also directed that production targets laid down for each unit have to be met and on going projects should be completed well in time. 

He also emphasized the need for bridging the gap between supply and demand and the need to fulfill the demand of power sector. He reminded all concerned that the instructions of Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should be fulfilled in letter and spirit. 

The Minister assured the participants that procedural delays would not be allowed to hamper progress and said that he would he will take up immediately the pending cases of clearance with the Minister of Environment & Forest. He said the Ministry of coal will be organizing a meeting of all CVOs on 15th June, 2009 to plug all the loopholes in the system and bring efficiency. 

CMDs of Naxalite affected areas expressed their operational difficulties due to continuous bandhs and Law & Order problem. Minister of Coal has assured them that full security measures will be put in place for this and for this he will speak to the concerned Chief Ministers and will also take up the matter with Home Ministry. MOS (Coal) has directed all CMDs to maintain discipline, bring transparency in the working and bring efficiency and effectiveness in the system. Minister (Coal) also apprised that within one month he will be visiting all the Coal companies to have first hand information about the working as well as the problems of the companies. 

The meeting was attended by Shri C. Balakrishnan, Secretary (Coal), Shri P.S. Bhattacharyya, Chairman, Coal India Ltd., Shri Rajiv Sharma, Additional Secretary (Coal) among others. Chairman, Coal India Ltd. gave a detailed presentation about the working of CIL and their future plans. The Minister also interacted with CMDs of subsidiary companies and listened to their problems. CMD, Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. and CMD, Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd. also made presentation on the working of their respective companies to the Minister.
