The ‘Commissioning’ ceremony will be held at Integrated Headquarter of Ministry of Defence (Army), South Block and the young MP will be `pipped’ by Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Bikram Singh.
The Minister hails from a services background; his father Late Sqn Leader Rajesh Pilot was fighter pilot from the Indian Air Force and his grandfather a Non -Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army. He is a graduate from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and did his Masters in Business Administration from Wharton Business School, USA. He plunged into politics at an early age of 26 yrs and presently is an MP from Ajmer constituency of Rajasthan. He cleared the Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) at Western Command, Chandimandir, the Services Selection Board (SSB) at Bangalore and his medical examination for joining the TA.
Sh Sachin Pilot will be commissioned in the Urban TA Batallion, a battalion known for its saga of valour and courage. Territorial Army is part of Regular Army but is different in the concept. It is manned by men and officers who are gainfully employed in their civil professions and come for training for two months in a year. Their actual role is during national emergencies and war, when they take on the complete peace time functions of Regular Army and release them for the active hostilities. The Territorial Army also guards all the vital installations like Ammunitions Dumps, Airports etc as also vital lines of communications.
