Pilot, Hon’ble Minister of State for Telecommunication and Information
Technology will be commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant in the Territorial
Army (TA). The ‘Commissioning’ ceremony will be held at Integrated Headquarter
of Ministry of Defence (Army), South Block and the young MP will be `pipped’ by
Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Bikram Singh.
The Minister hails from a
services background; his father Late Sqn Leader Rajesh Pilot was fighter pilot
from the Indian Air Force and his grandfather a Non -Commissioned Officer in the
Indian Army. He is a graduate from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi
and did his Masters in Business Administration from Wharton Business School,
USA. He plunged into politics at an early age of 26 yrs and presently is an MP
from Ajmer constituency of Rajasthan. He cleared the Preliminary Interview
Board (PIB) at Western Command, Chandimandir, the Services Selection Board (SSB)
at Bangalore and his medical examination for joining the TA.
Sh Sachin Pilot will be
commissioned in the Urban TA Batallion, a battalion known for its saga of valour
and courage. Territorial Army is part of Regular Army but is different in the
concept. It is manned by men and officers who are gainfully employed in their
civil professions and come for training for two months in a year. Their actual
role is during national emergencies and war, when they take on the complete
peace time functions of Regular Army and release them for the active
hostilities. The Territorial Army also guards all the vital installations like
Ammunitions Dumps, Airports etc as also vital lines of communications.
