|Annual Performance Review Meeting of IBM held|
|The Annual Performance Review Meeting for the year 2011-12 in respect of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) held under the Chairmanship of Shri Vishwapati Trivedi, Secretary Mines here today. Shri C.S.Gundewar, Controller General, Indian Bureau of Mines and senior officers from the Ministry of Mines and Indian Bureau of Mines were present in the meeting. In the meeting the review of performance indicators of various Schemes of IBM for the year 2011-12 was evaluated. Apart from review of Annual Action Plan, the following important decisions were taken in the meeting.|
I. Before determination of lease or part of the lease area it is necessary on the part of lessee to obtain a certificate from Indian Bureau of Mines that protective, reclamation and rehabilitation measure as envisaged in the Final Mine Closure Plan are implemented. The Secretary observed that it would be desirable that a panel of Experts may be prepared by IBM and in sample cases the spot examination with the help of such experts should be carried out to have independent views.
II. While appreciating the efforts of IBM in bringing out the status paper on “Iron & Steel Vision 2020”, Shri Trivedi stressed on the need for creation of domestic infrastructure facilities for the value addition for low grade iron ore fines in the form of pelletisation and sintering. The Secretary (Mines) desired that based on the IBM status paper, actionable points for implementing the vision statement may be identified. He also opined that some kind of tax benefit may be extended for mining entrepreneurs who are practicing value addition of ROM(Run-Of-Mine) ore.
III. As enunciated in National Mineral Policy 2008, Shri Trivedi directed that Business Development Plans for sub-sectors relating to copper, aluminium, lead & zinc, chromite and rare earth may also be prepared for devising strategy for these minerals. In this context he directed IBM to expedite the process of appointment of consultants for the purpose.
