Grading of Coal
The Government has decided to switch over from present grading of coal based on Useful Heat Value (UHV) to Gross Calorific Value (GCV) based system as per international practice, which had been recommended for adoption by a number of High Level Committees including the Integrated Energy Policy Committee. The details with regard to fixing prices for the GCV based system will be worked out by Coal India Ltd. This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Coal, Shri Pratik Prakashbapu Patil in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
The Minister said that to ensure availability of better quality of coal through possible reduction of ash contents, in addition to the existing washeries, more coal washeries are being planned to be set up in Government coal companies as well as in private sector.
