Tricolor flying high in foreign land
15 Aug 10. Kadugli (Sudan). The 64th Independence Day of India was celebrated with unprecedented zeal & vigour in Sudan by the Force Reserve Battalion (FRB) in United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). The gala event was conducted with a great deal of fanfare on the parade ground of FRB in Kadugli town of South Kordofan state in the morning hours on 15 Aug 10. The celebration was attended by the entire Indian community working in Sudan under the banner of United Nations. The chief guest of the occasion was Colonel Rana Pratap Kalita, Vishisht Seva Medal, who is the Indian National Senior in Sudan and also the Chief of Operations posted at the Force Headquarter of United Nations Mission in Sudan.
The celebration was marked by an excellent sequence of guard of honour by immaculately dressed JAT soldiers and flag hoisting ceremony of the Indian Tricolour, amidst a multinational audience. The flawless drill and spotless outfit of the Guard won the hearts of onlookers readily.
The Indian flag was unfurled in the majestic way followed by setting free white doves signifying the everlasting message of peace. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest, Colonel Rana Pratap Kalita, Vishisht Seva Medal, recounted the sacrifice of the martyrs of the sons of the soil for the cause of freedom and urged every Indian to keep up the commitment to take the name of the country to new heights. He outlined the vision of futuristic India which has attributes like peace, growth, prosperity and freedom.
The audience gallery included civilian as well as military dignitaries of highest positions in their respective fields; including Minister of Animal resource, Head of Operations, the Chief Military Personal Officer.
The celebration filled the hearts of all present with a sense of pride and patriotism. It also showcased the rich heritage of India on the soil of Sudan. The most important achievement of the event lies in the fact that the guests went back home with a rewarding experience of a great insight into India as a nation.
