Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel. Power, Light & Lubricants in India (Base: 1993-94 = 100)
Review for the week ended 14th August, 2010 (23 Shravana, 1932 Saka)

The WPI for the week ended 14th August, 2010 in respect of ‘Primary Articles’ and ‘Fuel. Power, Light & Lubricants’ is given below:




PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)



The index for this major group rose by 0.1 percent to 308.1 (Provisional) from 307.8 (Provisional) for the previous week.



The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 14.75 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 14/08/2010 (over 15/08/2009) as compared to 14.85 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 07/08/2010) and 7.74 percent during the corresponding week (ended 15/08/2009) of the previous year.



The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-



The index for 'Food Articles' group declined by 0.2 percent to 297.9 (Provisional) from 298.6 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of fish-inland (11%), moong, poultry chicken and gram (2% each) and maize, arhar, urad and rice (1% each). However, the prices of fruits & vegetables (2%) and wheat (1%) moved up.



The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 1.0 percent to 290.6 (Provisional) from 287.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of groundnut seed (7%), raw silk (5%), raw jute (2%) and copra and linseed (1% each). However, the prices of soyabean (4%) and raw rubber (2%) declined.



FUEL, POWER, LIGHT & LUBRICANTS (Weight 14.23%)



The index and rate of inflation calculated on point to point basis for this group remained unchanged at their previous week’s (ended 07/08/2010) level of 385.9 (Provisional) and 12.57 percent (Provisional) respectively. The rate of inflation was (-)8.90 percent during the corresponding week (ended 15/08/2009) of the previous year.
