Mumbai,August, 2009: InterfaceFLOR, a modular flooring firm, has introduced two technologies that will reduce manufacturing waste at its facilities. The flooring specialist has installed a bespoke ultrasonic cutting machine. It has also developed a pioneering ‘Cool Green’ system that allows it to recycle manufacturing and carpet waste back into its products for the first time; this not only reduces the material sent to landfill but also heralds a new dimension of ‘green’ manufacturing.
The new technologies are part of InterfaceFLOR’s Mission Zero and pledge to be the world’s first fully sustainable company by 2020.
The company plans to actively move away from the traditional manufacturing approach of ‘take, make, waste’ towards one that mimics nature’s recurring cycles, by recycling and re-using whatever waste is made.
‘Cool Green’ has particular significance as it enables the firm to reuse waste, such as from the manufacturing process, in its new products.
InterfaceFLOR is committed to becoming a fully sustainable company, leaving zero carbon footprint by 2020. Mission Zero is InterfaceFLOR’s promise to eliminate any negative impact the company may have on the environment by considering the impact of every creative, manufacturing and building decision it makes.
