Kolkata, August 22, 2009: The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the annual ‘BCCI Award for Excellence in Manufacturing Practices in SMEs today in the Chamber premises (‘Royal Exchange’, 6 Netaji Subhas Road, Kolkata 700 001), encouraged by the first edition in 2008.
Chamber’s panel of experts evaluated the articles of presentations submitted by the contestants and the best presentations were short-listed. These teams were invited to make presentations before the panel of experts for the Grand Finale at the Williamson Magor Hall of the Chamber so as to highlight the manufacturing practices adopted / followed by their respective organizations and share their experiences with the delegates.
The objective was to showcase the most excellent manufacturing practices in SMEs in the Eastern Region and create a forum for sharing of knowledge, experience and know-how in the areas of manufacturing, technology and related aspects. The ‘Best Practices’ selected by the Chamber’s panel of Judges were acknowledged and the best case study presentations were recognized and awarded by the Chamber.
Going beyond being a contest, the programme also provided the delegates from the SME sector, exposure to these ‘Best Practices’ followed by their colleagues in the industry. The programme also offered a platform for interactive session of sharing success stories and other relevant issues.
Large Industries were also invited to encourage participation of SMEs linked with their industries as ancillaries or vendors. The programme also provided a platform for the large industries to evaluate the competence of the SMEs. The participation of large industries encouraged the growth and development of the SMEs, which in turn would also benefit the large industries.
