Galley Mountaineering Expedition to MT Kedar Dome |
The Punjab Regiment, the oldest Regiment of the Indian Army, displaying their flair for adventurism, has set off on a Mountaineering Expedition to Mt Kedar Dome reflecting the resolve, courage and grit of the “VEER PUNJABIS’. The ‘Galley Mountaineer Team’ was flagged off on 07 Aug 2012 from Delhi Cantt by Maj Gen BS Sachar, Additional Director General Military Training (A) and Colonel of the PUNJAB Regiment in the presence of the veterans and large Number of retired and serving personnel of the Regiment. Lieutenant Colonel NS Guleria, an experienced mountaineer, is leading the Team of two officers, one JCO and 10 JAWANS. The ‘Galley Mountaineers’ will take the Route Rishikesh-Uttarakashi-Harshil-Gangotri-Bhojbasa-Mt Kedar Dome. Kedar Dome is the neighbouring peak of Mt Kedarnath at an altitude of 22,542 ft. They will attempt the peak from the Eastern face, which poses a tough challenge to even the most seasoned climbers. Galley Mountaineering Expedition comes in the wake of longest ever Para Motor Expedition from Meerut to Ramgarh (Jharkhand) covering 1156 Kms and Cycle Expedition from Ramgarh to New Delhi covering 1213 Kms successfully undertaken by the Regiment in the year 2011 as part of their 250th year celebrations. |
