Weekly Raw Steel Production - July 30, 2011


In the week ending July 30, 2011, domestic raw steel production was 1,858,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.0 percent. Production was 1,684,000 tons in the week ending July 30, 2010, while the capability utilization then was 69.6 percent. The current week production represents a 10.3 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 30, 2011 is up 1.5 percent from the previous week ending July 23, 2011 when production was 1,830,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through July 30, 2011 was 54,848,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.4 percent. That is a 5.2 percent increase from the 52,133,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.7 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending July 30, 2011 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast: 96; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 162; Lake Erie: 42; Detroit: 107; Indiana/Chicago: 480; Midwest: 274; Southern: 610 and Western: 87.
