Electric Vehicles under JNNURM
The Minister of State for Urban Development, Shri Saugata Roy informed the Lok Sabha today that as per guidelines under Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM), Urban Transport, including roads, highways/expressways/MRTS/metro projects is one of the admissible components for funding under UIG of JNNURM.
He further informed that the Central Government has formulated National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) in April, 2006. It, inter-alia seeks to promote integrated land use and transport planning, greater use of public transport, non-motorized modes of transport, Intelligent Transport Systems and technological improvements. NUTP also envisages research, development and commercialization of cleaner technology including electric vehicles.
Government of India (Deptt. of Heavy Industry) has constituted National Council on Electric Mobility (NCEM) and National Board on Electric Mobility (NBEM) to expand electric mobility and manufacture of electric vehicles (including hybrids) and their components in India. NCEM and NBEM are headed by Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises and Secretary, Department of Heavy Industry, respectively.
