Volkswagen India expands commitment to education by funding Zilla Parishad Primary School in Nigoje Village, Pune

 

Pune, October 30, 2009: As a part of its community service initiative, Volkswagen India Private Limited funded the construction of the first floor of a Zilla Parishad Primary School in Nigoje Village, Taluka Khed, Chakan, Pune.

 

In a ceremony held at the school premises, Mr. Joerg Mueller, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited was present along with Mr.K.K.Swamy, Managing Director and Vice President, Volkswagen India Private Limited, Dr. John Chacko, Technical Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited and Dr. Thomas Dahlem, Director Planning and Manufacturing, Volkswagen India Private Limited.

 

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mueller said, “I am sure and confident that - Education is the path to awaken the mind and help people achieve what they want to achieve. When we at Volkswagen heard about the school, we were very impressed with the initiatives taken by the Nigoje village to take their community to newer heights and hence we decided to support the construction activities by aiding the foundation cost for the first floor. In my personal opinion we are aiding the school with better opportunities for the students and their future.”

 

With an already existing 12 rooms, Volkswagen India will further add to the extension of the school. The institute which is co-educational till the seventh standard has a total of 367 students. The construction of the floor will be finished by December 2009. The Ceremony was attended by the Sarpanch of the Nigoje Village, Dayanand Yelwande; Zilla Parishad Education Committee Member Sheela Tai Shinde and Principal of the School Gautam Kamble along with teachers and students
