Goverment sanctions Rs. 444.48 crores for 22 road projects in Naxal affected States
To tackle the Naxalite menace and to improve connectivity in the Naxal affected areas, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned 22 proposals for development of 462 km length of State Roads amounting to Rs.444.48 Crores in the Naxal affected States of Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The approved projects includes 7 stretches of State roads with a total length of 135.46 km in Andhra Pradesh , 13 stretches totaling 261.20 km in Chattisgarh and two stretches with a total length of 66.70 km in Madhya Pradesh. Besides this, 25 proposals for 938 km length amounting to Rs.1180.83 Crore are in different stages of processing. These include proposals of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa andUttar Pradesh.
Amongst the road stretches which have been sanctioned include improvements to Rajahmundry-Bhadrachalam road and Bhadrachalam- Chandrupatla Road in Andhra Pradesh; widening of Bisunpur-Surajpur -Odgi Road and upgrading of Kusmi-Samri Road (SH-12A) in Chattisgarh; construction of Baihar-Paraswad-Lamta Road and Garhi-Motinala Road in Madhya Pradesh
The Government has approved schemes for development of National Highways and State Roads in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas of 33 districts in eight states at an estimated cost of 7300 crore rupees. Under the scheme, development of identified stretches of National Highways (1202 km.) and State Roads (4363 km) are planned to be taken up in a phased manner in the next three years subject to adequate security arrangements to be provided by the respective State Governments/ Central Agencies. An allocation of Rs. 500.00 crore has been made for the year 2009-2010. To co-ordinate this, a special cell has been created in the Road Transport and Highways Ministry for Left Wing Extremist (LWE) affected areas.
