
New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will honour seven Indian manufacturing companies with the inaugural SAIL HR Award for Excellence in People Management Processes at a ceremony to be held here on 9th July 2009. The awards, instituted in association with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad as the ‘Knowledge and Process Partner’, aim to recognise path-breaking contributions in the field of human resource management processes. The SAIL HR Excellence Awards have been instituted to commemorate completion of 50 years of production by SAIL.
An eminent jury, headed by Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, has assessed the applications that were received by SAIL for each of the awards. Other distinguished members of the jury are Mr. Sam Pitroda, Chairman, National Knowledge Commission, Mr. S.K. Roongta, Chairman, SAIL, Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC, Ms. Usha Thorat, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Mr. William Rothwell, Prof. of HRD, Pennsylvania State University, Dr. T.V. Rao, Adjunct Prof., IIM, Ahmedabad, Prof. Neharika Vohra, Prof., IIM, Ahmedabad and Mr. T.K. Arun, Editor (Delhi), The Economic Times.
Seven awards will be presented to organisations in three categories – large, medium and small – based on manpower strengths of above 5,000, between 1,000 and 5,000 and between 250 and 1,000, respectively. Each award comprises a trophy, prize money of Rs 1 lakh and a citation. Four companies had been shortlisted in each category from which the final winners were selected by the jury.
Shri Virbhadra Singh, Union Minister for Steel, Chief Guest on the occasion, will present the awards. Shri A. Sai Prathap, Union Minister of State for Steel, will be the Guest of Honour. Shri P.K. Rastogi, Secretary (Ministry of Steel), will also grace the occasion.
