Railway Revenue Earnings up by 21.70 per Cent during the Period 1st – 10th May 2012
The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th May, 2012 were Rs. 3243.20 crore compared to Rs. 2664.99 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 21.70 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1824.25 crore during the period from 1st to 10th May 2011 to Rs. 2283.66 crore during 1st to 10th May 2012, showing an increase of 25.18 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th May 2012 were Rs 851.16 crore compared to Rs. 741.59 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 14.78 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 79.45 crore during this period compared to Rs. 74.14 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.16 per cent.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th May 2012 were 239.09 million compared to 230.23 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.85 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during 1st to 10th May, 2012 were 123.11 million and 115.98 million compared to 120.96 million and 109.27 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 1.78 per cent and 6.14 per cent respectively.
