AIR TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

As part of the ongoing joint exercise Mahagujraj and Sudarshan Shakti involving South Western Air Command (SWAC) and Southern Army Command, a large scale Air Transport Operation has been undertaken today by the Air Force, to drop elements of a Parachute Battalion of the Army in the simulated/exercise war zone. The operation was jointly planned between Command Staff of the SWAC and the Army Parachute Battalion. The operation was undertaken by AVRO, AN-32 and IL-76 transport aircraft of the Air Force, which were escorted by the formidable Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft to protect them against the simulated enemy Air Force fighters. The execution was flawless and all the paratroopers were dropped over the Drop Zone as planned, after which the transport aircrafts were escorted back to base safely by the fighters. The entire operation was launched from Air Force Base, Jodhpur (Rajasthan).
