ZF surpasses the 1000th transmission in India

The transmission from ZF India Private Limited cut the 1000th assembly in August: Since the SOP 4th Quarter 2010, one thousand units have left the production lines at the transmission plant in Chakan. ZF's location in Pune supplies Axles and Transmissions to the growing Off Road Market. The premium OEM brands Telcon, Ashok Leyland John Deere trust in the substantial advantages of the transmission. ZF India is till date the only production unit in India to assemble fully power shiftable Backhoe Transmissions.

The crossing of the 1000th transmissions in a short span of 11 months reinstates the growth story of the Indian market and its strategic importance. ZF India Private Limited is a 100% Subsidiary in India, founded in early 2007, responsible for Localisation, Sourcing, Sales & Product Support related operations of its key business divisions in India. ZF India already has two plants in operation since 2010, one representing their Off Road
business operations (Industrial Business Division) and another handling the On Road (Truck Business Division) products.

Furthermore, ZF has a well established regional presence for their Service & Parts support business. Having its feet set strongly in the market, the organisation is on full throttle to increase its presence in the Indian market. Currently there are ZF owned service centres in Pune, Raipur, Bangalore and a dealer location in Delhi. The motive is to quicken response time to field requirements and ensure availability of genuine ZF parts. Construction & Earthmoving drive line business, a part of the Industrial Driveline division is one of the key focus areas of ZF Group for the Indian market. Having started its localisation activities in the Off Road
plant in Pune, the division is gearing up to increase its product portfolio for Local production. In 2010 local assembly of ZF backhoe rear axles was started, in 2011 the company expanded its portfolio to include its full powershiftable Backhoe Transmission.

Mr Strebl, Vice President of ZF India’s Off Road division adds “We are continually expanding our product portfolio and the Indian operations would already begin local assembly of ZF Wheel Loader Axle line by the year end.”

The Indian Government’s commitment to increasing infrastructure spending, to the level of 1 trillion US dollars in the next five year plan (2012_2017), will further catalyse the already growing market size. ZF is set to address the growing market demands through design to market applications with a horizon for local
production.

“India specific products through Indian production is our key strategy for this voracious market growth” comments Mr Keller, Director Sales IC Business Division. An engineering team based out of India in close collaboration with the German R & D base will support the development of the design to market applications. The team will play a pivotal role in identifying the market requirements and aiding in the development of a suitable product portfolio, quotes Mr. Piyush Munot, Director and Head of ZF India.
