Contribution of Solar, Geothermal and Wind Energy
During last three years, electricity generated from wind and solar power projects is estimated at about 50.3 billion units. This corresponds to about 2.14% of the total electricity production of 2346 BU during this period. No geothermal power project has been set up in the country.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has stepped up Research & Development efforts in all renewable energy technologies specially in solar energy. These efforts are proposed to be further strengthened during the 12th Plan, by substantially enhancing R&D outlay and developing Centre of Excellence for advanced research.
This information was given by the Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
