Rehabilitation of Closed Mines

As per available information, the Indian Bureau of Mines has permitted 51 mines sites to close as per approved mining closure plan, which includes proper rehabilitation and reclamation in terms of provision of MCDR 1988.

Every mining lease holder is required to furnish a financial assurance along with mine closure plan and the release of the financial assurance is subject to satisfactory compliance of the provisions contained in the approved mining plan and in event of non compliance the amount furnished as financial assurance is forfeited and used to carry out protective, reclamation and measures.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Mines, Shri Dinsha Patel in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
