The Fifth Dimension The French art of Marouflage being explored at the Gallery at Svenska, November 16-30, 2011

Svenska Design Hotels in Mumbai launched its art initiative in June 2011 and since then has had a succession of award winning as well as upcoming artists displaying their passion to a discerning audience.

During the second fortnight of November, the Gallery at Svenska will showcase an exhibition titled “The Fifth Dimension” by artist Boishali Sinha Massot. Boishali works with multiple mediums and is known for utilizing the techniques of ‘Gouache’ and ‘Marouflage’ which she learned from the Atelier Art Plastic in Rennes, France. Boishali is a talented, multi-award winning artist who has garnered recognition in India and internationally as well. Her art is in private collections in Cuba, the Ivory Coast, France and in various locations around India.

The shows at the Gallery at Svenska are spread over various public areas, restaurants and lounge bars within the design hotel, including Miro Specialty Mediterranean-Spanish restaurant (named after the famous Spanish artist Juan Miro); the chic and trendy Miro Lounge; the world-cuisine casual all-day dining restaurant, Mesa Bistro; and the al-fresco, Mesa Deli.

About the Art and Artists

Boishali Sinha Massot has graduated in Modern Art from the Atelier Art Plastic and the University at Rennes and the College of Art and South Delhi Polytechnic in New Delhi.

She is a multi-award winning artist, having been cited as one of the top five artists in France by Vitre and been nominated as one of the 32 most creative minds in India by AND magazine. She has been trained in the arts of ‘Gouache’ and ‘Marouflage’ which is what she works with using acrylics on canvas as her medium. Her art shows bold, bright strokes and an eclectic blend of textures and hues.

About the Art Initiative at the Gallery at Svenska

The Art Initiative at the Gallery at Svenska was created to provide a platform to both established as well as upcoming young artists to display their flair and creativity. The Gallery at Svenska does not charge the artists for their wall space nor do they keep a commission on the sale of their works. At the end of the allotted exhibition time however, a painting of the artist is retained which will then be sold via a celebrity auction, with the proceeds go to charity.
