Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited – Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP), a “Navratna” company popularly known as “Vizag Steel”, a leading Central PSU under the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India is the first shore based integrated steel plant in the country with modern technology.

RINL-VSP having an annual capacity of 3 million tonne of liquid steel and a turnover of over Rs. 11,500 Crs produces various grades of long products like TMT Rebars, Wire Rods, Rounds, Structurals, Squares etc which are widely used in infrastructure projects as well as meets the requirement of common mass.

RINL-VSP is known for adoption of new technology and was the first plant in the country to have 100% Continuous Casting technology, Biggest Blast Furnaces of 3200 cu.m, Tall Coke Ovens with Coke Dry Quenching facility, Rolling Mills equipped with world best “Stelmor & Tempcore” Processes, highest captive power generation from Waste heat 40 MW for current 3 Mt and would go up to 90 MW after expansion.

RINL-VSP is known for its “Quality” steel & stringent tolerances  & with in-house innovations today produces special grades of steel of about 78% of its total production meeting the requirement of high grade steel for projects of National importance which include Metros, Indian Railways, Power Sector, Nuclear Complexes and several others.

RINL is now doubling its capacity to 6.3 mtpa at a cost of Rs. 12,500 Crs. which will be operational by 2011-12. Once again RINL adopted latest technology like fastest Wire Rod Mill, RH Degasser & Electro Magnetic Stirrer in Steel Melt Shop for production of high quality cleaner steel.

Acquired 51% stake in Eastern Investment Limited which has Orissa Mineral Development Corporation (OMDC) and Bisra Stone Lime Company (BSLC) as subsidiaries as a step towards key raw material securitization.

Currently, RINL-VSP has a wide Marketing distribution network consisting of 5 Regional Offices, 23 Branch Sales Offices and Stockyards, 4 Consignment Sales Agents and 120 District Level Dealers, spread across the country.

LAUNCHING OF RINL-RDS (RURAL DEALERSHIP SCHEME) IN KARNATAKA:

In line with the National Steel Policy, RINL-VSP is making all out efforts to make available Vizag Steel to the actual user by reaching to interior places of the country. In this endeavor, RINL is launching a novel Rural Dealership Scheme (RINL-RDS) with a view to making quality steel available in rural areas.

Sri Pradeep Kumar Bishnoi, Chairman cum Managing Director, RINL-VSP along with Sri  AP Choudhary, Director (Projects), RINL and Sri TK Chand, Director (Commercial), RINL will formally launch the scheme in Karnataka (Bengaluru) and present the “Certificate of Registration of Rural Dealership Scheme” to the beneficiaries.

Salient features of RINL-RDS:

Sri AP Choudhary, Director (Projects) has described the scheme as a novel step of RINL to support all round growth in rural India.

Sri Tapan Kumar Chand, Director (Commercial), while elaborating on the scheme describes “RINL-RDS as a highly inclusive Scheme encouraging SC/ST/OBCs/Women and Minorities to register as Rural Dealers”. The applicant is required to only submit an affidavit that he/she is financially sound to take up the dealership. The scheme is open to every body except existing Retailers, Consignment Agents, District Level Dealers (DLDs). RINL/VSP ensures that the rural customers are supplied steel products at or below the Maximum Recommended Retail Price (MRRP) fixed by the company keeping a margin of Rs. 1,000/- pmt steel that would be available for the dealers. The steel would be supplied on free transportation basis. The period of Registration of Rural Dealers is 2 years, which is renewable on mutual agreement basis. There is no security deposit for Registration as Rural Dealers.   

Rural Dealers are Registered at Block Level and Panchayat Level locations of various Districts in the country.

As per the Rural Dealership Scheme, superior quality TMT Rebars in Fe 500 and Fe 550 grades, produced by RINL/VSP, are made available to the Rural Dealers for marketing in rural areas.   

RINL’s Branch Sales Office at Bengaluru will register more than 200 number of Rural Dealers under the Scheme in addition to the District Level Dealers already appointed in the State. RINL is also planning to take up several more activities related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the areas of Education, Health, Self employment, Community Development etc., in the locations covered under RDS and DLDs. On the eve of launching of the RINL-RDS Scheme, Sri Pradeep Kumar Bishnoi, CMD, RINL distributed “Study Kits” to poor students and announced adoption of 10 Girl students by RINL. RINL will provide all expenses to these girl students till they pass matriculation examination. Director (Commercial), Sri Tapan Kumar Chand in his address informed that RINL will try to make steel available in rural areas of Karnataka through strong rural network of dealers and invited young entrepreneurs to come forward & register as dealers. Sri AP Choudhary, Director (Projects) informed that RINL expansion products will roll out in coming days and RINL will make these products available in the State of Karnataka.

Sri Pradeep Kumar Bishnoi, CMD, RINL also informed that RINL is planning more of CSR activities like launching of “Nayan Jyoti” (Cure for Cataract) in rural areas of Karnataka.
