IMF Fact-Finding Team Visits Egypt

A team from the International Monetary Fund led by Ms. Ratna Sahay, Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, visited Cairo April 3-10 at the invitation of the authorities. The team met with the Prime minister, senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Central Bank, various government agencies, and other stakeholders. These technical discussions focused on updating recent economic developments and the near term outlook following the revolution that took place beginning January 25. The Egyptian authorities plan to continue the discussions when they visit Washington this week to take part in the Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank. The IMF staff remains committed to the dialogue with the Egyptian authorities and their efforts to promote inclusive growth, employment and macro- and socio-economic stability.
