Setting up of power plants by railways

Indian Railways has formed a joint venture company ‘Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company’ with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to set up a captive power plant of 1000 MW capacity at Nabinagar in Aurangabad District of Bihar.

Indian Railways is also planning to set up another power plant of 1320 MW capacity at Adra in Purulia District of West Bengal to avail traction supply at economical tariff.

Out of four units of 250 MW at Nabinagar Power Plant, the first unit is likely to be commissioned by March 2012 and balance three have been planned to be commissioned after every three months thereafter.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri E. Ahamed in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
