Full Complement of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN
ASEAN Secretariat, 23 March 2010
Ambassador I Gede Ngurah Swajaya of Indonesia presented his Letter of Credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN at the ASEAN Secretariat today marking the full complement of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN.
Describing Ambassador Ngurah as a “familiar face in ASEAN circles”, Dr Surin said that with all the ten Permanent Representatives officially in place, the work of the CPR as mandated by the ASEAN Charter would be further enhanced.
ASEAN Charter requires each ASEAN Member State to appoint a PR to ASEAN with the rank of Ambassador based in Jakarta. Collectively, the PRs constitute the CPR, whose tasks include supporting the work of the ASEAN Community Councils, coordinating with ASEAN National Secretariats and other ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies. The CPR also liaises with the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat.
Ambassador Ngurah, who was previously the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Cambodia, also contributes regularly to local newspapers and is a lecturer at several universities in Indonesia.
