Mosolf Official Releasing Agent for Volkswagen India Private Ltd. / Joint Venture Set Up with TSI
Kirchheim-Teck/Pune (India), 07 December 2009 – Mosolf India Logistics Private Ltd. has successfully completed the start-up phase as the official releasing agent for Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. in Pune. The joint venture between Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG and Transport Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. (TSI) won the tender bid procedure initiated by the automobile manufacturer immediately after it was set up in April 2009.
The daily operating tasks include managing and maintaining all the vehicles (CBUs) within the newly constructed Volkswagen factory. Mosolf India is also responsible for preparing documents and reports and optimizing all the relevant releasing agent processes. The joint venture is therefore responsible for the complete movement of the vehicles ranging from the time that they are taken over to the technical services and even passing them on to freight forwarding companies.
Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG has been increasingly involved in the Indian market for almost two years. The company has commissioned a number of detailed studies on the conditions on the Indian market and the opportunities and risks within the automobile and logistics sector in India since 2007.
“India is a very interesting market with a great deal of potential for us. India is already a permanent feature as a production location for the automobile industry. I am expecting further growth here. There are other automobile clusters in addition to the one near Pune. We will continue to observe the Indian market and strengthen our commitment here in the long term,” says Dr. Jörg Mosolf, Managing Director of Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG.
Mosolf India Logistics has its headquarters in Pune – right at the heart of one of the largest automobile clusters in India. In order to safeguard the quality of its services and optimize the processes using specialist input from Europe, the company is directly linked to the German headquarters of Mosolf.
Markus Laub, director of Mosolf India Logistics Pvt. Ltd. and responsible for the business development division at Mosolf, summarises some of the results of market research and his experience in India: “Many of OEMs with international operations, which are active in India, are interested in long-term improvements in quality and a significant reduction in what are – in comparison with the prices of the vehicles – comparatively high logistics costs in India. We can make a start here and use our experience gained in comparable markets like Brazil, China and Russia, where we have been conducting business for quite a long time. It is our goal to develop the Indian system and also offer our customers high-quality and comparatively low-priced logistics services here in future.”
The Volkswagen factory in Pune is one of the most modern within the Volkswagen Group and is significant because it makes use of a high proportion of local suppliers. It is the only production facility belonging to a German automobile manufacturer in India, which covers the complete production process – from the press shop to the body shop and the paint shop and even the assembly line. Volkswagen is planning to employ approx. 2,500 workers at the Pune factory, which has an annual production capacity of up to 110,000 vehicles destined for the Indian market, by the end of 2010.
Continual increases in sales are not the only evidence of the significance of the automobile industry in India – many international automobile conferences and exhibitions are also being held there. The Automotive Logistics India conference is currently being held in Pune. Representatives of automobile manufacturers, suppliers, logistics companies and other services are meeting on 2 - 4 December. Dr. Jörg Mosolf will also be attending the Automotive Logistics India. He will be speaking at the conference on the significance of individual and tailor-made designs for logistics services and the future potential for the automobile industry on 3 December.
