AT COMPANY OPERATIONS IN
PALMDALE,
Last year, the Palmdale facility diverted 1,673 tons of waste from the landfill through recycling and reuse efforts, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.2 million pounds of CO2 and saving $417,300 in the process.
“Much of our recent success has resulted from the commingled recycling program we implemented last winter,” said Michael Haro, Environmental Manager at the Palmdale facility. “The program, which converted desk-side trash cans into commingled recycling containers, diverted over 90,000 pounds of waste from the landfill in November and December alone.”

In 2007, Lockheed Martin launched a comprehensive environmental program with the long-term goal of eliminating adverse impacts on the environment as a result of its operations. This includes annual carbon, waste and water use reduction goals and an aggressive 2012 target of an absolute 25 percent reduction in each of those areas.
