World Steel Association elects new officers and welcomes new members


 

 

Beijing, 12 October 2009 – The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) has elected the following new officers for 2009/2010:

 

Chairman:              Paolo Rocca, Chairman and CEO, Techint Group

 

Vice Chairmen:      Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO, ArcelorMittal

                               Hajime Bada, President & CEO, JFE Steel Corporation

 

Treasurer               John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corporation

 

The new officers were elected for one year, until October 2010. The Board of Directors met on the first day of worldsteel’s 43rd Annual Conference in Beijing, China.

 

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of the World Steel Association, Ian Christmas thanked Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman for 2008/2009, for his support and dedication over the past year. Ian Christmas said: “We welcome Paolo Rocca as the new Chairman, Lakshmi Mittal and Hajime Bada as Vice Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer. We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board”.

 

The Board of Directors also elected the 2009/10 Executive Committee:

Regular Members (steel companies producing more than 2 million short tons (1.8 mmt) per annum)
