Javier Solana,

EU High Representative for the CFSP, condemns today's terrorist attacks in Kabul

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP),
condemned today's terrorist attacks in Kabul:
"I am deeply shocked by today's appalling acts of terrorism in Kabul that have killed at least six
United Nations staff and three Afghan nationals and injured many more. I extend my condolences to the families of the victims, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Government of Afghanistan.
I condemn these cowardly terrorist attacks on an international guest-house and the Serena Hotel in Kabul that have been perpetrated ahead of the second round of Presidential elections. The European Union remains deeply committed to supporting Afghanistan in its effort to build a
peaceful future and the democratic electoral process is an essential element in this effort. I should like to pay tribute to the UN staff members who lost their lives today. The United Nations
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and its Head, Kai EIDE, play a vital role in the
reconstruction of Afghanistan.
