Mechel Announces Establishing Its Representative Office in Japan

Moscow, Russia – October 5, 2009 – Mechel OAO (NYSE: MTL), one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, announces establishing its official representative office in Tokyo, Japan.

The date of official opening of Mechel’s representative office in Japan is October 1, 2009.

The representative office of the company will support Mechel’s business in Japan, including conducting market researches, arranging meeting with partners and searching for new ones, advertising the Group’s products, and performing representative functions.
