SAIL Chairman Mr S.K. Roongta's response to Budget '09 for your use:

The budget puts a clear emphasis on infrastructure building through substantially higher allocation for JNNURM, Bharat Nirman, national highways, railways, housing for paramilitary forces etc., along with an initiative for funding of PPP projects through IIFCL and banks. Continuation of stimulus package, specially relating to lower excise duties, is encouraging and abolition of fringe benefit tax (FBT) is a welcome move. Higher income in the hands of the rural population through NREGA, etc., should help industry indirectly.

As already spelt out by Hon’ble Finance Minister, there is an urgent need to remove policy, regulatory and institutional bottlenecks towards implementation of various projects/schemes. We hope necessary follow-up initiatives and measures would be taken by the Government.
