Mineral Production during January 2012
The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in January 2012 was higher by 0.34% compared to that of the preceding month. The mineral sector has shown a negative growth of 2.96% during January 2012 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.
The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during January 2012 was Rs.17020 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 5725 crore (34%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs 5426 crore, iron ore Rs.2911 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1428 crore, lignite Rs. 423 crore and limestone Rs. 268 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in January 2012.
Production level of important minerals in January 2012 were: coal 551 lakh tonnes, lignite 42 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 3815 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 32 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1192 thousand tonnes, chromite 319 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 13 thousand tonnes, gold 194 kg., iron ore 130 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 15 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 191 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 127 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 202 thousand tonnes, dolomite 376 thousand tonnes, limestone 190 lakh tonnes, magnesite 19 thousand tonnes and diamond 1824 carat.
In January 2012 the output of apatite & phosphorite increased by 27.31%, diamond 21.68%, zinc conc 19.37%, lead conc. 13.71%, gold 13.45%, lignite 11.72%, coal 2.67%, bauxite 0.87 percent. The production of petroleum (crude) and copper conc. remained at the same level of previous month. However the production of natural gas (utilized) decreasedby 0.16%, iron ore 8.12%, limestone 8.63%, manganese ore 12.14%, dolomite 13.49%, chromite 17.03% and magnesite 17.23% percent.
