Climate Campaign |
Dear Friends,
Back in January, we issued a challenge to Facebook - the social network that so many of us love and use every day - to 'Unfriend Coal' by Earth Day and make a plan to power its massive data centres with renewable energy instead.
Facebook did not unfriend coal by Earth Day (April 22), so our campaign continues and we still need your support.
The company has made encouraging steps in the right direction, such as the Open Compute Project, and placing some solar panels on its new Prineville data centre. Facebook is taking these first steps because you, and more than 750,000 other Facebook users, are asking the company to choose renewables, not coal.
Help keep the pressure on Facebook by leaving a comment on Facebook's 'Earth Day' note. (You need to 'like' facebook.com/green to comment.)

Help keep the pressure on Facebook by leaving a comment on Facebook's 'Earth Day' note. (You need to 'like' facebook.com/green to comment.)
Some ideas for comments:
- I 'like' Facebook, but I really ‘dislike’ coal. Please power my profile with renewable energy. http://facebook.com/unfriendcoal
- Congratulations Facebook – the Open Compute Project is a great start, but you won't be green until you choose renewable energy. http://facebook.com/unfriendcoal
- Congratulations on the Open Compute Project, but efficiency alone is not enough – an efficient data centre, powered on renewable energy is what we need! http://facebook.com/unfriendcoal
We are making progress talking with Facebook and pushing the company towards a real renewable energy plan. If you help us maintain the pressure on Facebook, it will only be a matter of time before Facebook announces that all our profiles, pages and posts will be powered by renewable energy!

If you aren't on Facebook, you can still help the campaign by telling 10 friends about it - forward this email and ask them to join our campaign page at http://facebook.com/unfriendcoal
Thanks so much for continuing to support the Facebook campaign.
We couldn't have made it this far without you!
