Railway Revenue Earnings up by 7.73 per cent During April- December 2010
The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April – 31st December 2010 were Rs. 67880.82 crore compared to Rs. 63009.23 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.73 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 42522.43 crore during 1st April – 31st December, 2009 to Rs. 45290.35 crore during 1st April – 31st December 2010, showing an increase of 6.51 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the first nine months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs. 19205.26 crore compared to Rs. 17496.89 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.76 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1889.81 crore during April- December 2010 compared to Rs. 1703.45 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 10.94 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-December 2010 was 5901.56 million compared to 5567.66 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.00 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-December 2010 was 3026.84 million and 2874.72 million compared to 2873.28 million and 2694.38 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.34 per cent and 6.69 per cent respectively.
