Descartes and Motorola Announce Latest Intelligent AVL Solution for Retailers Available on MC75 Device

NEW YORK, Jan 11, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- NRF 99th Annual Convention & EXPO Convention -- Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG) (Nasdaq:DSGX), a federated global logistics network, announced that its latest intelligent Automated Vehicle Locator(TM) (AVL) solution is now available on the Motorola MC75 mobile device.

Part of Descartes' United by Design initiative, Descartes' latest AVL Pocket PC mobile resource management application integrates Motorola's MC75 mobile device with efficient delivery route planning execution, Web-based tracking of vehicles via global positioning satellites (GPS), scanning and signature capture. The combined functionality helps extend fleet and mobile resource visibility to retailers.

Motorola's MC75 Worldwide Enterprise Digital Assistant combines an unparalleled number of business capabilities into an easy-to-carry rugged device. 3.5G GSM HSDPA and 3G CDMA-EVDO Rev A support provides high performance voice and data services around the globe. With the Motorola MC75, mobile resources have a variety of features in one device designed to endure everyday use outside the enterprise -- including push-to-talk, integrated GPS with superior sensitivity and tracking capabilities, 1D and 2D bar code scanning, high resolution 2 megapixel autofocus digital color camera, 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN (WLAN), Bluetooth and IrDA connectivity.

"This new united Motorola and Descartes mobile resource solution does much more than simply provide visibility into shipment arrivals at a customer's door," said Ken Wood, Senior Vice President, Product Strategy at Descartes. "By integrating route planning and optimization with real-time visibility, dispatchers and customer service staff gain access to a Web-based view of delivery or field worker status in real-time. It also provides rapid notification of critical events throughout the delivery process, such as signature capture, enabling operators to make customer-focused decisions on routes and delivery reservations in real-time to reduce costs, streamline operations, and ensure consistent quality of service."

With the combined Descartes and Motorola AVL mobile resource management solution, retailers can access field data updates and tracking in real-time, ranging from basic GPS coordinates to complex user-configurable data collection. With the depth of data provided, operators can also measure delivery or field worker performance against planned routes, and notify dispatch and/or customer service operations if any changes are made during the delivery cycle. Field workers can also review relevant shipment data to keep up-to-date on delivery status to more effectively coordinate arrival times.
