New Secretary General for ISSF

Hong Kong, 12 March 2009. Dr Staffan Malm, Secretary General of ISSF, has announced his intention to retire at the end of March 2009 after eight years at the helm of the world’s leading stainless steel forum.

Dr Malm became ISSF’s first dedicated Secretary General when he was appointed by the Board in 2001. Since its establishment in 1996, ISSF had been led by the head of the International Iron and Steel Association (now World Steel Association), Ian Christmas.

Since his appointment, Dr Malm has continued to evolve ISSF into an independent organisation that now represents almost 75% of the world’s stainless steel production. Membership of the forum has also grown by around 50% during his tenure.

At their Annual General Meeting in Hong Kong, the members of ISSF elected Pascal Payet-Gaspard to succeed Staffan as Secretary General. Until recently, Mr Payet-Gaspard was Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal Stainless International. Mr Payet-Gaspard is a graduate of the École Polytechnique, Paris, and the Sloan School of Management of the Massachussets Institute of Technology. He has a long career in the stainless steel industry, having occupied senior management positions in a number of companies including Arcelor, Ugine&ALZ, and Ascoforge.
