Hilmi Quraishi, Co-Founder & Chief Learning Technologist of ZMQ India, has been elected as Ashoka Fellow. Ashoka, Innovators for Public, recognizes his pioneering and innovative works in developing Mobile and other ICT tools to empower the underserved and unreached communities.
Hilmi is a social entrepreneur, educational technologist and an innovator in the field of educational technology, and specializes in developing effective technological solutions for the bottom-of-the-pyramid markets. Also as the Director of Social Development programs of ZMQ, Hilmi has developed many initiatives like Freedom HIV/AIDS - Mobile phone Games and Health Care tools, Mobile Prenatal and Postnatal tools for Women in villages, Social Communication tools using Mobile Games on issues like Health awareness and other issues related to Millennium Development Goals.
He is also the Project Director of Connect2Climate program, a collaborative program of ZMQ and TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, New Delhi. Under this program he has been succesfully able to engage many corporate, organizations and government through innovative Support Partnership and Exchange model to join hands to combat Climate Change.
In January 2007, at ZMQ, Hilmi established an independent center for excellence - Mobile for Development, a lab for designing scalable and replicable development solutions and applications for BOP target group. The lab will develop pilot projects in mobile and Information Technology for social development in the areas of Education, Skill Development, Poverty alleviation, Global Health and fighting diseases like HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria and Disaster Management using Educational Technology.
